What is chalk paint and what do you use it for?

Chalk paint seems to be very popular these days, but what exactly is it? What can you do with it? In this blog post, we explain it all to you!

We see three types of paint sometimes referred to as chalk paint: paint made from chalk, paint that gives a chalk-like finish and blackboard paint. Let's take a closer look at what these three types of paint exactly mean and what you can use them for.

Chalk-based paint

Perhaps the term 'chalk paint' most often refers to a mineral, water-based paint for which natural pigments are used to create colour. Chalk paint under this meaning is very popular from ecological considerations, as the majority of its components are natural. In addition, the look you get with chalk-based paint is also quite special. Chalk paint provides a matte, soft, powdery finish, giving it an elegant appearance.

For decorative purposes, mineral chalk paint is usually applied to inner walls. However, there are other applications where chalk is used as a paint base. Think of eco-friendly marking sprays that can be used on trees and grass, for example.

Chalk effect paint

The look you can achieve with mineral chalk paint is also mimicked in other paints that are not chalk-based. If the term 'chalk paint' refers to this, it means paints with a so-called chalk effect.

Levis Ambiance Chalk Effect is one such paint with which you can give your interior walls, ceilings and even furniture a trendy chalk look. It is also water-based paint, but it is acrylic-based rather than chalk-based. One advantage is that this is a ready-to-use paint that you can use straight away.

TIP: Would you like to use this paint to paint a vintage cabinet, for example? Then it is best to finish the cabinet with a coat of Levis Ambiance Protector. This is a transparent, matte protective layer specifically designed for when you use Levis Ambiance Chalk Effect on wood. This way, your painted furniture will stay looking beautiful for longer.

Blackboard paint

Sometimes blackboard paint is also referred to as chalk paint. In that case, it is simply paint that gives you a surface on which you can chalk.

You can also use it in many different ways. In addition to the classic black or dark green blackboard paint, the range of chalk paint in our web shop also includes blackboard paint in many other coloursmagnetic blackboard paint and even blackboard spray, with which you can transform even small objects into a write-on surface.
