5x colour inspiration for your front door
Is your front door in need of a coat of paint? And are you wondering which door colours are popular anno 2024? We share five paint inspirations to make your front door shine both on the inside and outside. Because let's face it, your front door is an important place to welcome people after all, so you'd better give it a fun tone.
1) Black as most favoured front door colour
You might not be surprised that black is the favourite colour for an exterior door. In fact, it is a colour that suits every living style and gives your home an instant stylish makeover. But if you choose this dark hue, there are a few things you should pay attention to:
Not all black is the same. For instance, you have different shades of black such as RAL 9004 and RAL 9005. RAL 9005 is really a deep black, while RAL 9004 is slightly more toned down.
The gloss level also helps determine the look of your black door. If you choose matt black, for example, your door will look modern or industrial.
If you go for high gloss, you will get a luxurious look. Also know: the higher the gloss level, the higher the scratch resistance.
2) Monument green looks good outdoors
Number two on the list of door colours is monument green (N0.15.10), also known as the most popular shade of green in Sikkens' Authentic Colour Collection. A true exterior colour, this dark green is often chosen to embellish exterior joinery such as doors and window frames on monumental buildings. Sikkens describes this colour as both modern and timeless. One you can't get tired of.
Grachtengroen (Q0.05.10) is also a popular colour for your front door and is quite similar to monument green, but is even slightly darker and making it close to the colour black.

3) Boost your exterior with a shade of brown
Are you a person who likes soft colours that exude tranquillity? Then these trending shades of brown might be huge contenders. It's just that little bit different from a plain wooden look, but you create the very same warmth. And if you ask us, the colours look a bit like mocha or cappucino, giving your exterior an extra boost.

4) Make a statement
Want your door to catch the eye when passers-by pass by? Then choose a vibrant colour and make a statement. Yellow, pink, purple, red, blue... there are plenty of ways to brighten up the streets with your door.

However, we recommend not applying such a vibrant colour to your facade. Think of your front door as an accent colour and finish the rest with a neutral colour or keep the ordinary look of your brick.
5) Paint the door in two colours
A question that everyone asks: can I paint my front door in two colours? The answer is yes! Thank goodness, because you might have wanted to take a bold colour on the outside and choose the same shade of white as your wall on the inside.
This can be done very easily with just one rule in mind, namely: if the door turns inwards, the sides, bottom and top also belong in the colour of the inner door. So you can easily apply your RAL 9010 shade inside and choose one of the front door colours from this blog outside.
Start and revamp your door
Now that you've had enough door colour inspiration, it's also useful to know which paint to get started with. But first, what material is your front door made of? Are you going to paint on wood, aluminium or PVC? Because we have a suitable primer or paint for each surface.
A wooden exterior door needs a synthetic wood primer such as Sikkens Rubbol Primer or Sigma Tigron Primer as a primer. An aluminium or plastic door needs a specific primer that adheres to smooth substrates. For this we can recommend Sigma Multiprimer or Trimetal Permacryl Multiprimer.
All that remains is to finish it off in your favourite colour. If you paint your door with the lacquers below, it will be a beautiful greeting spot, guaranteed. Would you prefer some more advice? Knock on our team's door, because our door is always open to you, both offline and online.
