Trend colours from previous years that are not losing their popularity

Which paint colours were once declared trend colours and why? From Chinese Porcelain to Olive Sprig and Brave Ground. They all deserved an award, so these paint colours are definitely worth a look! And let one thing be clear: just because the colour was trending in 2020 or 2021 does not mean it would not be fashionable in 2024. On the contrary, they have since become a real staple in numerous interiors.

Let's start with the paint year 2022

Olive sprig (PPG1125-4), a soft, olive-green shade with a greyish undertone plays the starring role at Sigma Coatings in 2022.

This PPG colour comes from the trend colour palette Horizon. A bold and hopeful colour palette that literally symbolises towards the new horizon ahead. At the time, a cry to a year without a corona pandemic and thus better times.

Bright Skies (T0.10.70) was also declared the trend colour of 2022. The light blue colour is one from Akzonobel (Levis, Trimetal, Sikkens) and has that same hopeful glow about it. Literally, it means clear skies. Not a cloud can get in the way.

And admit it, not only is the colour gorgeous, but also the feeling it brings is fantastic. A certain cheerfulness that you experience on the first beautiful day of spring when the skies break open and bring with them clearings.

2021: warm shades of brown

In 2021, the trend colours of paint manufacturers Sigma Coatings and Akzonobel were not far apart at all. On the contrary, both colours Transcend and Brave Ground exude tranquillity, warmth and harmony. These are paint colours that can be used as the base colour of your rooms and with which other colours can balance perfectly.

Not surprisingly, both manufacturers chose a warm earthy brown shade. Because we all had to stay home en masse in 2020, a concept of cocooning has emerged. Also known as creating a cosy, safe bubble of your home.

The natural tones of brown lend themselves perfectly to this. The Transcend is a little lighter than the Brave Ground paint colour and combines perfectly with Misty Aqua and Big Cypress.

Because the Levis trend colour Brave Ground is darker, it pairs perfectly with light beige shades, but a golden touch or ochre yellow accent would also work very well.

We Finish with Chinese porcelain, the star of 2020

A deep, rich blue that offers your space a special dose of elegance. We are talking about the most popular trend colour of the year 2020. Chinese Porcelain by paint manufacturer Histor, is a dark blue colour that still needs some guts, courage and playfulness to take into your home.

If you are a daredevil and like to have a unique interior, this colour might appeal to you. The shade matches very well with pastel shades and still forms a soft entity. But if you are really looking for something more daring, you can combine it with other vibrant shades such as yellow and red.

A tip: if you want the blue undertone of this shade to remain visible, it is best not to apply it in a room with no or very little light.

In addition, with dark paint colours, keep in mind that it is best not to make them in an extra matt or matt paint. Rather, use a semi-matt wall paint such as Sigma Perfect Semi-Matt, which will spare you from streaks.
