The product can be applied directly over rust without using a primer or primer, stops the rust process and gives up to 8 years of protection. Hammerite Metallic Lacquer Satin SPRAY can be applied directly to ferrous metals, if you have heavily pitted rust spots then for even more durable rust protection you can first pre-treat with Hammerite Nr. 1 Anitroest Primer. For non-ferrous metals (zinc, aluminium, galvanized metal, ...) it is best to pre-treat first with Hammerite Non Ferro Metaal Primer.
