What is a White Stain?
You have two types of white stain: a transparent white stain or an opaque one. But both types protect your wood from rain and sun, thus extending the life of your wood.
1. A transparent white stain
This retains the natural look and wood structure the most. The most popular white stain colour in a transparent finish is the light wood colour birch, which also looks a bit like white. This is available in Xyladecor Tuinhuis stain.

2. An opaque white stain
Here you still have the feel of wood, but already much less than with a transparent stain. The wood is coloured even more because you choose an opaque white stain. There are many variants of opaque white stains. For example, in many cases you can fill in a mixed colour such as the most popular white shade RAL 9010.
But at DIY brands such as Xyladecor, V33 and Woodlover, you can also find many other cool white stain colours such as white jasmine, lapland white, ice white, chalk, etc.
Mixable in RAL 9010
What is the difference between white stain and white wash stain?
When you choose a white transparent stain, you actually achieve the white wash effect if you apply only 1 layer. You can use this on interior wood. White wash is a kind of white haze that you apply to the wood. It gives an aged look where it looks as if you have washed off some of the white.
A genuine White Wash stain such as Woodlover Scaffoldwood White Wash is actually not the most qualitative to apply to your garden shed or wooden wall cladding, for example. In principle, it is better to choose a transparent stain in a woody white tone such as birch and apply two layers of this for optimal protection against sun and rain.
What should you pay attention to when buying white stain?
When you want to buy a white stain, it is important to know whether your stain is dirt-repellent. This is because white is a colour on which you can easily see dirt. If your stain is non-dirt-attracting, you are guaranteed a beautiful result. The opaque white stain Sikkens Cetol Opaque is a good example!
White stain a good choice?
Yes! A white stain brings many advantages, such as keeping your wood protected from moisture and UV rays. In addition, a light shade of white fits in with just about any style and you won't tire of it any time soon. Finally, sunlight reflects on white, making it a few degrees cooler in your summerhouse. For this reason, your wood won't start bursting with heat either. So countless advantages!

Which is better white stain or white lacquer paint?
If you have non dimensionally stable outdoor wood such as a garden house, garden furniture, a fence, terrace, ... then there is no other choice but to choose a white stain. This is the best way to protect your non dimensionally stable wood.
However, do you want to paint your wooden windows or doors in a white colour? Then you have two options: Either choose a white stain. This is a good choice if your wood hasn't been stained yet. But choosing white lacquer paint is also an option here. If you choose a white lacquer, your surface will be sealed and you will get a tight paint result. The wood structure is no longer visible with this second option, so it is up to you to choose which finish you prefer.
